This is Lobuff's Bare Necessities, born in 1990. He's a Champion, of course. A wonderful dog, a true Mardas male type, but he hasn't got one single drop of Mardas blood in him.
When I first saw this dog, our Oliver (Mardas Midnight Black) was 3 months old and I expected (and hoped) Oliver would one day look like this dog. 
Oliver has to mature, of course, but I still think they have a lot in common.
So I used Baloo's picture for our banner, and for the cover of the Labrador book I am writing (there will be an English translation).

It was my dear friend and mentor Marlene Hepper (Mardas Labradors) who chose Baloo's picture for the cover of the International Labrador Review, issue September/October 1998, in which she published her breeder story. 
Now Marlene for one wouldn't typify Baloo as a typical Mardas dog, but I, walking on the wild side, certainly would typify this dog as MY favourite Mardas type, and it is this type of dog I wish to produce in the future, in black, yellow and chocolate.
Of course our Oliver (Mardas Midnight Black) is an excellent starting point, but other dogs, not related to Oliver, are needed to produce a reproducable line of Labradors of this type. 

Therefor I purchased our Dodger (Victor Jara des Terres Sacrées), for the black/chocolate lines of this type. Dodger is a direct descendent of Lobuff's The Grateful Dawg and Mardas Maroon. Therefor I will purchase our Baloo, a granddaughter of Lobuff's Bare Necessities (linebred back to Dickendall Ruffy) in the fall/winter of 2004, for the black/yellow lines of this type.

Of course I realise it won't be easy to produce a steady, healthy quality of this type of Labrador, but it's a challenge, a lifetime goal, to put this train on the rails and get it started. Maybe my children, my grandchildren, or dear young friends, will be able to perfectionise this type of Labrador. There is however one thing they have to keep in mind: the dog I want to produce has the right looks, for sure, but even more important are his excellent will to please, his special gentle character, and his "sweetiness".
